HB Innovations are looking for a highly motivated Post-Doc or PhD graduate to become part of our research and development team, based within the Medical School at Newcastle University. The successful candidate will be expected to become involved in all aspects of our small but very successful company and fulfil research, development and product validation objectives.

Person Requirements: We are looking for a dynamic team player with a chemistry/biochemistry (or similar) background, and a keen interest in clinical diagnostic applications.

North East Local GRADschool – Communication Skills + More

Collingwood College, Durham

A four-day residential course for Ph.D. researchers in any discipline, full-time or part-time.

Places at this GRADschool will be offered to all Ph.D. researchers but preference will be given to those in their penultimate or final year and studying in the five north-eastern universities (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Teesside and Sunderland).   

The course will allow you to:

  • identify ways to develop
  • see the relevance of your skills in different environments
  • feel more able to promote yourself and your abilities
  • work more effectively with other people

Newcastle Engineering and Renewables Fair

Come along and meet a selection of the UK’s engineering and renewable energy companies and intermediaries.

  • Find out how you could fit into their organisation and what opportunities they have which interest you.
  • Talk to staff working for these companies and get some inside information on what they look for and how their business is developing.
  • Ask the questions that you can’t find answers for on their website.
  • Find out knowledge and information that could make your future application that bit more researched and specific.
  • Take the opportunity to impress them with your interest and enthusiasm for their business.

All of this makes for much more impressive applicants both on paper and in person!

Friday sees the start of Newcastle Science Fest 2010. There is a diverse programme of events and activities, from which I’m sure all of you could find something of interest – whether a scientist or a lay person. Talks, film-screenings, experiments, workshops, open-days, speakers, comedy, food – if you can think of it, you can probably find it happening! So whether you want to take your children along to find out about horrible science, learn how to brew your own beer or want to make contact with some people in your field, have a look at the website to find out more!
