We’re keen to make sure postgraduate research students have the best possible experience while studying at Newcastle University. To do that we need to know what you think we are doing well and what we can do better. If you’re thinking about taking part this year, these are the answers to some of the questions students often ask.
What is it?
The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey or PRES is a national survey of postgraduate research students inviting them to comment on their experience. The questionnaire takes around 15 minutes to complete. The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey launched at Newcastle on 23 March and will close on 14 May 2015.
Why should I take part?
The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey is your chance to tell us your thoughts about your studies. The results help us compare how we are doing with other institutions, to make changes that will improve what we do in the future and to keep doing the things that you value. This will help improve your experience and that of students like you.
What does it cover?
PRES concentrates on your study experience and includes questions on: • supervision • resources • research community • research skills and professional development • motivations • demographic details
What happens to the results?
Your feedback is important. Over one hundred universities and colleges take part in PRES. This means we can compare your experience against similar postgraduates at other institutions to see if we are supporting your learning as we should. We use the findings to improve our courses and the experience for future students.
Is it anonymous?
The survey is confidential, with responses completely anonymized so that no-one will be able to identify you from any results. The survey asks that any comments you make should not identify yourself or any specific members of staff.
What do I need to do?
You will receive an email with a link to the questionnaire – this link is unique to you and you should not share it with anyone else. Simply click on the link and complete the online form. All eligible students will be sent their own link, and regular reminders will be sent with your link included. If you cannot find your email and wish to take part, you can email Gilly Box email@example.com and have your link resent to you. The survey is open until 14th May 2015.
Where can I find out more?
If you are unsure about anything to do with the survey, or have any difficulty, please contact Gilly Box in the Learning and Teaching Development Service (LTDS) by email firstname.lastname@example.org or on 0191 208 6290.
