The ACTION 2014 team would like to invite you to the final of the ACTION 2014: Changing Age competition which is a showcase event in which teams display their commercial solution to the posed Societal Challenge.

The Showcase is being held in the Exhibition Space on the first floor of the Great North Museum: Hancock on Wednesday 12th November 2014 between 14:30 and 16:30. Please feel free to drop in at any point between these times.

ACTION is a competition for Newcastle University researchers to address societal challenges through enterprise.  Newcastle University is committed to ensuring its research helps to address some of the key global issues by focussing on selected societal challenge themes (Ageing, Sustainability and Social Renewal). ACTION 2014: Changing Age asks; how can we live better, for longer, in our communities and maintain our quality of life?

Our finalists, four teams of researchers, drawn from all three faculties, have developed commercial solutions to their chosen Ageing challenge following a series of training events.

At the Showcase final each team will produce a trade stand displaying their business idea together with a prototype, video, model or other visual form of their solution. The competition will be judged by an expert panel on both the quality of the team pitch and the strength of their trade stand. The winning team will be awarded £2,000 per person to use to further develop themselves as entrepreneurial researchers.

We hope you are able to join us for this exciting event.

ACTION 2014 team:

Dr Gail de Blaquière, Lecturer in PG Skills Development

Miss Katie Wray, Lecturer in Enterprise

The ACTION competition was developed, using Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funding, to encourage research students and staff to engage with the ideas of enterprise and entrepreneurship.
