Newcastle University | Newcastle University Campus | £600 Bursary upon completion

ResearchersNewcastle Work Experience (NWE) is a summer work experience programme providing current and graduating Newcastle University students the opportunity to undertake challenging, project-based placements within Newcastle University and North East businesses. This placement is for 100 hours to be worked flexibly until August.

The Schools of Biology and Geography, Politics and Sociology have come together to work on a project focusing on reviewing and enhancing support for Postgraduates who Teach (PGwT) across all three faculties. The overall aim of this project is to better understand the subject-specific nature of postgraduates’ teaching support beyond the initially centrally-supported Introduction to Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (ILTHE) workshop. The project will review how to effectively provide both the general and subject-specific on-going support and development which PGwT require in their role. A major part of this will include talking with postgraduate students from across the University and staff who work with PGwT, both centrally and within the faculties.

The successful student will plan, conduct, and report on an initial survey open to all current postgraduates who teach and/or demonstrate. This survey might involve an initial questionnaire, with focus groups to probe for further detail. This should lead to a report detailing actions to be taken to address issues uncovered in the questionnaire.
Closing Date: 16/06/2014
