The organising committee for ACTION 2013 has been in touch, to invite postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers to their competition showcase.
ACTION 2013 is a fantastic competition, bringing Newcastle researchers together to find enterprising solutions to the university’s societal challenge themes.
If you have the opportunity to participate in ACTION 2014 I would really recommend it – it’s a brilliant way to engage in some collaborative working, and to gain some commercial experience (not to mention the prize money…).
The Showcase is being held in the Exhibition Space on the first floor of the Great North Museum: Hancock on Monday 9th September 2013 between 14:30 and 16:30. Please feel free to drop in at any point between these times.
ACTION is a competition for Newcastle University researchers to address societal challenges through enterprise. Newcastle University is committed to ensuring its research helps address some of the key global issues by focussing on selected societal challenge themes (Ageing, Sustainability and Social Renewal). ACTION 2013: Challenge North East incorporates all three of these themes to ask; what ideas can be sparked by our research community to tackle societal issues that have impact locally in the North East of England? Six teams of researchers drawn from all three faculties have developed commercial solutions to their chosen societal challenge following a series of training events (visit our website for further details www.ncl.ac.uk/action2013).
At the Showcase final each team will produce a trade stand displaying their business idea together with a prototype, video, model or other visual form of their solution. The competition will be judged by an expert panel on both the quality of the team pitch and the strength of their trade stand. The winning team will be awarded up to £10,000 to use to further develop themselves as entrepreneurial researchers.
We hope you are able to join us for this exciting event.
