Description: Graduate Apprentices offers graduates (who have graduated from a UK university in the last three years) the opportunity to undertake an initial twelve week paid contract within a North East based SME. 80% of our graduate apprentices have been offered longer term positions. Onyx Scientific provides a wide range of chemical services to the life science industry. They specialise in medicinal chemistry, Process Development, Custom Synthesis, GMP synthesis and Scale-up, in addition to a comprehensive range of analytical and solid-state services including automated Salt Selection and polymorphism studies.
They are looking for synthetic organic chemists to work in their laboratories in Sunderland. The work involves practical organic synthesis on scales ranging from milligrams to kilos. Projects vary from medicinal chemistry research to process development and GMP scale up. A Chemist will be expected to work safely within the guidelines set by the company. They will carry out experimental work in the laboratory to synthesize small quantities of product using standard laboratory equipment and larger quantities in equipment up to 50L scale.
Candidates should ideally possess a PhD in organic chemistry and have an excellent knowledge of synthesis. In addition to a range of practical skills an ability to interpret a wide array of analytical information will be required. You need to be self-motivated and able to run projects with minimal supervision. Good inter-personal skills, both written and verbal are essential for working with both customers and laboratory team.
