Hope you can join a fun, inspirational and relaxed evening for Girl Geeks from across the North East.  If you wish to come to the event please place your booking as soon as possible as places are selling fast already.

The Girl Geeks November event is in proud association and support with CONNECT North East – the fast track for technology business  which brokers introductions between young technology companies and investors.

Girl Geeks is a north east based, fun and friendly professional community for women and girls interested in technology, science, digital, innovations, entrepreneurialism, creativity and computing.  We hope you will come along and join our fun networking opportunity for like-minded women to get together, network, dine, drink and discuss all things geek.

November Event Details:

Date & Time: Tuesday, 10th November 2009, 6pm for 6.30pm start.

Venue:  Newcastle University Business School – the new Citywall building, part of the Citygate, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE1 4JH 

Location and Parking: NCP and The Gate car parks on Stowell Street,  St James’ Metro

Food:  Extensive Christmas finger buffet and home baked cupcakes. Please inform us of any dietary requirements.

Drinks: Welcome drink, wine and soft drinks available.

Subject for the evening: Entrepreneurialism

Format: Warm welcome, introduction to the evening and update, buffet dinner, talks from guest speakers, shared experiences from a few Girl Geeks members, conversations, networking. 

Event Host: Kim Inglis (former Tyne Tees TV presenter and reporter now freelance journalist/media trainer/speaker in addition to being appointed as the presenter for new Lakes TV will be our host for the evening.


 Rachel Elnaugh (former BBC Dragons Den)  

Rachel Elnaugh is one of Britain’s highest profile female entrepreneurs.  At 24 she created Red Letter Days on a shoestring budget from the front room of her home. Red Letter Days went on to generate over £100million in turnover in the 16 years that she ran it.  In early 2005, Rachel shot to fame as one of the original Dragons in BBCTV’s BAFTA nominated cult business show Dragons’ Den.  Rachel has spent the past four years working in the Enterprise Sector inspiring, motivating and empowering entrepreneurs on their journey towards success.

Carrie Hartnell, Head of Industry, Intellect

As Head of Industry Strategy for Intellect, the leading trade association for the UK technology industry with 750 SME and multinational member companies. Carrie Hartnell is responsible for promoting the important role of the technology industry to and within the UK economy. 

Gillian Arnold, Technical Manager, IBM UK Ltd

Gillian has twenty six years in the IT industry, the last sixteen being with IBM. Gillian has board placements as Chair of the DTI and Intellect Women in IT Forum, Chair of IBM internal Senior Technical Professions Board, and has extensive input to the IBM UK steering committee for diversity policy.

Capacity: 100 north east girl geeks – places are going fast already.

Attendees: Girl Geeks from across the North East! Boy geeks are welcome to attend if invited by a girl geek although on this occasion we do stress that there are limited spaces due to demand so more boy geeks = less girl geeks.

Cost: £25.00 per person
